While the above phrase brings to mind a thousand axioms or quotation, defining architecture for us has been a simple, or not so simple, process of identifying problems and providing imaginative, optimal solutions. The only idiom we do hold to our heart is Mies, “God is in details”. Thoughtful, well designed details are what lift a project from mediocre to exceptional. Every single design project we undertake, be it a multi storey office for a corporate giant or a small flower shop, goes through the same meticulous detailing process.
Architecture today has become closely intertwined with the construction process and as technological advancements will continue to be made in the construction industry. For an architect to remain detached from this progress is tantamount to professional suicide. While architecture is undeniably an art for, it is arguably hard to divorce it from function. The definition of ‘function’ too has evolved beyond its modernist connotation of pure usage, now it encompasses concepts like identity and aesthetics. |
